Best Coastal Towns to Travel to in Michigan

Surrounded by the Great Lakes, Michigan can be one of the best places to go if you enjoy being on the water. There are plenty of spots to enjoy some of the best beaches in the world. Here is our top list of coastal towns in Michigan if you need some quality beach time.

  1. Mackinac Island

Well, it’s an island, not a town, but it was recently named the most popular summer destination in the United States by TripAdvisor. There’s a bike bath all around the island to take in all of the views of the water, and home of the famous Grand Hotel. Did I mention the the Mackinac Fudge too? Can’t go wrong with so many flavors of fudge available.

  1. Grand Haven

Also known as Coast Guard City, USA, Grand Haven hosts its annual Coast Guard Festival from July 27th to August 5th. If you’re not there during Coast Guard Festival, no worries. Grand Haven State Park is ranked as one of the best state parks in Michigan, and even though the boardwalk is not there right now, walking down the pier is still great. During the nighttime, you can enjoy the Musical Fountain too. A great family event!

  1. Holland

We recently did a post about Holland’s great beaches, so we had to include them in this list. All of the beaches are worth spending a day at, and there’s plenty to check out in Downtown Holland. There are great boutique shops there and if you’re around for Tulip Time in the first week of May, you can enjoy all of the Dutch traditions too. Maybe even get your own pair of wooden klogs?

  1. Charlevoix

A small, artsy town, and part of “Up-North” for Michiganders. It’s central to a lot of the major tourist destinations in this part of Michigan too. Plenty of places to enjoy the water with Lake Michigan and Lake Charlevoix as your options. Michigan Beach Park is great place to hang out too for sunsets or fishing. If you want to adventure too, Beaver Island is just a ride over for plenty of trails to hike.
